How To Upload a Video To YouTube

Do you wish to be an internet sensation, be a source of information, or just simply share a video? Then YouTube is an ideal platform if you want your video to reach numerous viewers! The site does not only offer millions of videos but you can enjoy it for free. In YouTube, anyone can upload their video, may it be a vlog, tutorial, or music video. Besides, your video would be a lot more fun when you can share them online.

However, uploading a video to YouTube might seem a little bit complicated if you’re new to the scene. That’s why this post is for you! We will be your guide throughout your journey in uploading your first video on YouTube.

Step 1: Create Your Google Account

You will first need to set up a google account. If you do not have one and do not plan on creating one, YouTube will ask you to create one. After creating your Google account, head to the YouTube homepage and click the sign-up button. Fill out the required fields in the form. Once you’re done, click the “I accept” button.

If you have various accounts, choose the right one for uploading your video. You are now signed in. To make sure that you’re signed in to your preferred account, look at the top right-hand corner of the page. If you see your username, then you are in!

Step 2: Click the Upload Button

Once you’re signed up, you will be directed to the homepage. This step is simply clicking the upload arrow button near the upper right-hand corner of the page. From there you will be taken to the upload page.

Step 3: Set Your Privacy Setting and Desired Video Source

In the upload page, you’ll see different options to pick from. The first step is to choose who you want to see your video and adjust the privacy settings. You’ll be able to choose from public, unlisted, private, and scheduled. If you don’t want to limit your video from anybody, select “Public.” Choosing the unlisted setting keeps your video from being findable through searching. Your viewer should have the direct link instead to watch your video; this gives you control over your viewers. If you want to keep your video for yourself, then the private setting is perfect for you. Lastly, clicking “Scheduled” lets you choose a time and date for your video to go public.

After setting your video’s privacy, you’ll need to select your video source. YouTube gives you different options like uploading your video from Google photos, or you might want to live stream it instead. However, if you want to upload your video from your device, click the big white arrow or simply drag your file.

Step 4: Uploading

Your video will start to upload. It may take a while, but you’ll be able to see its progress in a status bar. While waiting for your video to upload, you can type its title, description, and relevant tags to make it easier to find.

YouTube offers a “Translations” tab which lets you input translated description for your viewers around the world. Furthermore, the site gives you an option whether you want to allow public comments and ratings or if you want community contributions. If the uploaded video is 3D, the “Advanced Settings” tab lets you adjust the settings according to your preference.

Step 5: Choosing a Thumbnail

A thumbnail is your video’s representation. It has the same purpose as a movie poster or a book cover. It catches your viewers’ attention so they could “play” your video. The thumbnail image will be seen everywhere your video is embedded.

Once your video is uploaded, YouTube lets you choose from three different thumbnails. Unfortunately, you can’t get creative with your videos’ thumbnails unless you’re a verified account. Your options will only be limited to the three different pictures Youtube picked. We recommend that you select the thumbnail that best represents your video and looks the most interesting if you want more viewers.

After choosing your desired thumbnail, click “Publish” or “Done.”  If you want to limit the video’s audience, you can privately share it by clicking the “Share” button on the right instead. Your video is now ready to view.

Step 6: Managing your Video

Congratulations! You just uploaded your first video on YouTube. Your video has its own page and URL where different YouTube users can comment, like, and share your video. From there, you would determine the number of views your video has reached.

YouTube offers a “Share” button underneath the video that lets you and other YouTube users have different sharing options to thirteen platforms. You could also simply copy the link and promote your video on any internet platform you want.

If you wish to make some changes to your video’s settings in the future, all you need to do is to go in the “Creator Studio” by clicking your icon in the right-hand corner of the page. A drop-down menu will soon appear. From there, click the “Creator Studio.”

In this page, you’ll be able to see your videos, their number of views, and the analytics from your channel. You would know how your audience is responding to your videos by knowing the time they spent, your video’s number of views, and the frequency of your subscribers.

You successfully managed to upload your first video, and you’re now ready to handle your YouTube account. The next videos you’ll be uploading will be easier for you. Goodluck on your journey!
